November 24, 2011 CHARRED WALLS OF THE DAMNED RELEASE "ZEROSPAN" VIDEO TRAILER
Richard Christy talks about the concept behind the video: "What we're crafting with the "Zerospan" video is a five minute technological horror film set to blistering heavy metal! We had such an amazing filmmaking team for the "Zerospan" video. We had Directors Mike Schiff (Charred Walls 'Ghost Town' video) and Sean McEwan (Albino Farm) who are super talented and have brought some incredible ideas! We also had amazing special effects makeup by Brian Spears and Pete Gerner from G and S Effects who recently did the amazing vampire film "Stakeland"! Our lead actor Bryan Haeffele did amazing as well, and people are going to freak when they see the creature effects in this video! We're going to spend some time editing and making it perfect and we're looking to a January 2012 release date! We wanted to release this quick little teaser to give everyone a taste of the horrifying awesomeness that will be the "Zerospan" video! Trust me, it is going to be well worth the wait!"
Cold Winds On Timeless Days has received heaps of praise from press, see what's been said so far below.
"a 58-minute barrage of cutting-edge power metal abounding with tumbling polyrhythms, asymmetrical riffs, and unconventional arrangements. Though technically demanding, the songs are focused by the tuneful, vibrato-laden vocals of Tim "Ripper Owens and the crafty guitar work and stellar production of Jason Suecof." 4/5 stars, Revolver Magazine
"Charred Walls of the Damned are a rarity in the metal world — a supergroup that’s actually super…I defy you to listen to it and not raise a pair of invisible elephantiasis-afflicted nuts towards the sky. It’s impossible. It just can’t be done." MetalSucks.net
"It's smart, it's melodic, and it's sure to get the head banging. A quality slice of US metal." Big Cheese Magazine
"complicated riffs and numerous tempo shifts…the musicianship is flawless…technical skill is top-notch" About.com

Charred Walls of the Damned release first single, details for new album
Cold Winds on Timeless Days to be released October 11th, 2011
Charred Walls of the Damned returns with the follow up to their critically acclaimed self-titled debut! Richard Christy, Tim "Ripper" Owns, Jason Suecof and Steve DiGiorgio once again join forces to bring to life Christy's latest body of work, Cold Winds on Timeless Days. The writing process for the new album actually began while the band was mixing their 2010 debut. Richard Christy used his experience on the first album to write songs that catered not only to each member's playing style, but to Jason Suecof's production style. The result: demos that turned out nearly identical to what ended up on the album.
With 12 songs clocking in at 58 minutes, fans are getting a lot more music this time around. Recording twelve songs in a short amount of time is no easy feat, but one that was accomplished because of the stellar talents in the band. Christy elaborates further; "I wanted to get a natural sound out of this album, I wanted everyone to be well rehearsed, not that I wanted the album to be rushed, but I wanted the spontaneous live feel and not over think anything too much." Richard Christy describes Cold Winds on Timeless Days as a "perfect storm of producing" – Audiohammer's Jason Suecof produced and Mark Lewis mixed, while mastering was handled by Alan Douches at West Westside.
Fans can hear the first single, Zerospan, as well as place pre-orders now on metalblade.com/cwotd. The album can also be pre-ordered on iTunes HERE. Additionally, Richard Christy will be on air with SiriusXM Liquid Metal's Jose Mangin today Tuesday August 23rd for an interview and to premiere the track on air. Fans can hear the interview and song today at approximately 9am, 3pm and 9pm eastern time! For more info on Liquid Metal, head to http://www.siriusxm.com/liquidmetal.

Well, it's been quite a while since my last update. Between work, several concerts, beerfests, KU in the NCAA tournament, getting ready for my upcoming wedding, and recording the second Charred Walls of the Damned album, it's been a very busy 2011 so far!
First off, the second Charred Walls of the Damned album is coming along amazingly! Drums and guitars are done, and we're currently getting ready to record the bass and vocals. This album is going to be incredible, I'm so proud of it. I can't wait for all of the fans to hear it, if you liked the first album, you're definitely going to love this album! It's going to be super melodic, have plenty of blast beats, plenty of super catchy vocal parts, heavy guitars, and insane bass parts! We're hoping for a September or October release on Metal Blade Records!
I have a new feature on Noisecreep.com where I list several of my favorite drumming parts. It's a really cool article and I talk about all of my drumming influences and there are links included where you can listen to all of the drum parts that I talk about! You can check it out here: http://www.noisecreep.com/...
In other Charred Walls of the Damned news, an amazing musician from Europe named Vika recently did a piano cover version of the CWOTD song “In A World So Cruel” and it sounds really cool! You can check it out here: http://www.youtube.com/...
The new Amon Amarth album Surtur Rising comes out today and it is CRUSHING! I've been listening to it nonstop in the past few weeks and I'm so psyched when a metal album comes out that you can listen to all the way through without stopping, and this is definitely one of those albums! The double bass/chorus riff in The Last Stand of Frej is maybe the greatest riff I've ever heard! It's so heavy and catchy! I can't wait to see them live in May!
Also, my proudest work as a drummer, Death's 1998 album The Sound of Perseverance special edition reissue is out now on Relapse Records! Relapse, Eric Greif, and Chuck’s family did an amazing job putting together beautiful packaging and some amazing bonus materials for this special edition release! You can follow this link to check it out! http://shop.relapse.com/...
A lot of people have been asking me how I lost 65 pounds in the past year so I might as well give a plug to the Iphone app that helped me lose all the weight. It’s called Lose It and it worked amazingly for me. The best part about it is that it’s free and I didn’t have to stop drinking craft beer!!!!
My good buddy and also guitarist for Charred Walls of the Damned, Jason Suecof, recently did a really cool interview for the website Metal Injection, and if you watch at the very end you can see him do his “near spot on” imitation of me! http://www.metalinjection.net/...
Myself and my coworker at The Howard Stern Show, Sal Governale, were recently featured on RollingStone.com which is pretty awesome! http://www.rollingstone.com/...

January 4, 2011 RECORDED DRUMS FOR THE NEW CHARRED WALLS OF THE DAMNED ALBUM
Hey Everybody,
well I have some really exciting news about my band Charred Walls of the Damned! Last week I recorded drum tracks for 12 new songs for the second Charred Walls of the Damned album! I flew down to Miami, Florida the day after Christmas to start tracking drums at the legendary studio The Hit Factory Criteria Studios. The drum room we recorded in was insane, it was the size of a school gymnasium and my drums sounded massive in there! We got a very natural drum sound thanks to our awesome engineer Mark Lewis and the amazing drum room, everything went really smooth and we finished up in a very quick two and a half days, and I'm super excited for everyone to hear the monster drum sound we got for these awesome songs. Seeing gold albums hanging on the walls from bands like The Eagles and Black Sabbath was so inspiring too, the historic music that's been created at that studio is just unreal and it was an honor to record the drums for the second Charred Walls of the Damned album there. We'll be finishing up the rest of the album in January and February at Audiohammer Studios in Orlando and we're hoping to have the album out some time this summer. The songs are super heavy, brutal, and very melodic and catchy like the first album, I can't wait for people to hear our new material! I'll have many more updates in the coming months and I also took tons of video in the studio that I'll be posting here on my site and also possibly including in a bonus DVD when our second CD comes out. I'm posting some cool photos from our drum recording for everyone to check out too, and until the next update I would like to wish everyone a very happy, healthy and Metal New Year!

November 4, 2010 HALLOWEEN, CHARRED WALLS GRAMMY NOMINATION, CONTROL DENIED REISSUE, & DDRUM VIDEO
Well it's been quite a while since I've updated my site because I've been fully immersed in Halloween activities for the last month and a half and I've also been finishing up writing the songs for the next Charred Walls of the Damned album which I'm super psyched to say that we will begin recording next month! So here's some of the stuff that I have going on right now!
Another Halloween has come and gone and I'm now in a post Halloween funk after having about the most fun October ever! My fiance and I did so many cool and different things this year including visiting Pennhurst Haunt Asylum and doing a Ghost Hunt throughout some of the abandoned buildings, spent an incredible weekend in Salem, Mass, went to the always amazing Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Orlando, stayed in a haunted hotel in Sleepy Hollow and visited the Great Pumpkin Blaze and Horseman's Hollow Haunted House, visited the Dorney Park Haunt in Pennsylvania, ate and drank more Pumpkin foods and drink than should be humanlypossible and even got a Pumpkin Spice Spa treatment, and topped it all off with a day at my buddy Brian Spears from G&S Effects house where he did the most amazing Halloween makeup ever for me! Brian just did the effects for an incredible new Vampire movie called Stakeland which I saw last week and I have to say is one of the best Vampire movies I've ever seen! He based my makeup on the Vampire makeup he did for Stakeland and words can't even do it justice, so there are some pictures you can check out on the Photos page courtesy of photographer Bryan Haeffele!
The first Control Denied album "The Fragile Art of Existence" was just reissued through Relapse records and if you are a fan of the great Chuck Schuldiner and the band Death then you should definitely check it out! I was very happy to write the liner notes for the reissue and I'm so happy that new fans will be able to hear this amazing album. I have many great memories of making this album with my friends Chuck, Shannon, Tim and Steve and I'm so happy that Relapse has put together a beautifully packaged reissue of this album. You can pick up two different versions of the CD along with cool new Control Denied shirts here: http://shop.relapse.com/...
I just found out that Charred Walls of the Damned is on the preliminary ballot for next years Grammy Awards! We're up for nomination for the song 'Ghost Town', so if you're a member of the Grammy committee I would be honored if you vote for us!! This was something that I didn't even fathom that we'd ever be considered for so just to be on the preliminary ballot is an honor!
I also want to remind everyone of the Charred Walls of the Damned Online Store which you can find here on the front page of my site, featuring some really cool Charred Walls merch!
There's a new interview and drum video of me on DDrum's Youtube channel, the video turned out really cool, the guys at DDrum did an amazing job producing this video! youtube.com/...

I've been pounding away every day in the rehearsal room preparing for the tour and I'm very proud to say that I am now working with the amazing drum company DDrum! I have a brand new 5 piece kit in the Dominion Ash series and I couldn't be happier with the way these drums look and the way they sound! The finish is a beautiful wood grain orange lacquer with black hardware (lugs and hoops) and I call it my Halloween kit because that's my favorite holiday and orange/black are my favorite colors, orange and black is also my high school colors for the Uniontown Eagles back in Kansas! It's an honor to be a DDrum artist along with some of my favorite metal drummers like Vinnie Paul, Dave Lombardo, and Robert Sweet!
I just made a brand new video with my good buddy Tony Maggiolino from the Drummer's Collective in NYC where I discuss and demonstrate all of my gear including my new DDrums, my Sabian cymbals, my new Axis A21 Laser Double Pedal, my Fatback 3A Vater Drumsticks, my Aquarian Drumheads, and my Gator drum cases; all of the gear I will be using on the July 2010 Charred Walls of the Damned Tour! June 1, 2010 POWERMAD COVER ON iTUNES, ALSO REVIEW, INTERVIEW, THANK YOU, & CONDOLENCE Well, there’s a lot of things happening with Charred Walls of the Damned and various other goings-ons so I’ll get right to it!
First off, I was so psyched to open this week’s Time Out New York magazine and see that the Charred Walls of the Damned show on July 8th at the Gramercy Theater is one of their picks for summer concerts to see in New York! Here’s a link to the article: NewYork.TimeOut.cm/...

I’m really excited to announce that Charred Walls of the Damned’s version of the Powermad classic “Nice Dreams” which was previously only available as a Japanese bonus track is now available on Itunes! I've been a huge Powermad fan since I first heard the classic album Absolute Power back in 1989. The song "Nice Dreams" has always been one of my favorite metal songs and I thought it was the perfect cover song for this band, a great way to showcase what an amazing lead guitar player Jason Suecof is, and a great way to pay tribute to one of my favorite underground metal bands. Hopefully some fans who aren't familiar with Powermad will hear this song and discover this great thrash metal band, and hopefully Powermad fans will enjoy hearing our take on the classic song "Nice Dreams". We will be playing it live on tour too! Here’s a link to the “Nice Dreams” single on iTtunes: iTunes.Apple.com/...
I recently did a really fun interview with Michael Melchor of the Orlando Rock Music Examiner, you can check it out in 2 parts here:
- Examiner.com/part-1...
- Examiner.com/part-2...
I want to give a HUGE thank you to the guys in Coheed and Cambria and all their crew for such an amazing time in Philadelphia at their two shows at the Electric Factory recently. I introduced the band on the Saturday night show which you can see here: YouTube.com/...
Coheed also played my favorite song ever “The Crowing” at the Saturday night Philly show and dedicated it to me!!! I totally freaked! I don’t think I’ve ever banged my head that hard, my neck is still killing me! When they went into the ending climax part of the song I literally think my whole body went into spasms, I really went insane! If you want to hear how incredible this song sounds when Coheed plays it live you can go here: YouTube.com/...
I also saw Coheed and Cambria in Central Park in New York City this past Wednesday which was also amazing and I took a picture that I think turned out really cool, it looks like something right out of an alien movie!
I also wanna thank my buddy Jimmy Duff at the most awesome heavy metal bar on the planet Duff’s Brooklyn for putting the Charred Walls of the Damned and Death logos on their new poster! The poster is totally awesome and whenever you’re in New York City you have to visit Duff’s! They have the heaviest jukebox ever and a great, headbanging crowd of really cool people!
There’s a new Decibel magazine out now with my monthly article “Richard Christy’s Horrorscope” featuring the great horror flick Hatchet. DecibelMagazine.com/...
There is an album coming out June 8th that you MUST hear if you love heavy metal like me. It is the new Nevermore album 'The Obsidian Conspirac'y and it is a masterpiece! Nevermore’s album Dead Heart in a Dead World was my favorite album of the 2000’s so needless to say I had very high expectations of this album and I’m very happy to say this album exceeds my expectations! I wrote a review for it for the website Metal-Army.com which you can check out here: Metal-Army.com/...
Lastly, It’s been a very sad time lately in the world of metal with the loss of several great metal icons. I posted some thoughts on my Facebook page and I thought I would also share them here.
My heart goes out to the guys in Slipknot and Paul Gray’s family. What a sad day. I’ve known Paul and many of the Slipknot guys since 1993 when all of our old bands used to do death metal shows together in Des Moines. For the past 11 years it has made me so proud to see what a massive force in music they’ve become. I’m so proud of what Paul's accomplished and I’ll never forget what a great guy he was. RIP Paul Gray.
RIP Ronnie James Dio the Voice of Heavy Metal and one of the nicest guys I've ever met. Your music will live on forever. Crank up some Holy Diver to celebrate a true metal legend!
